Ideal for high volume applications, the Aerosolv® 360 system safely converts spent aerosol cans from solid hazardous waste to a non-hazardous, recyclable material. Threading directly into a standard 2-in (51-mm) bung on a 30- (110-liter) or 55-gallon (200-liter) drum, the housing accepts cans up to 3-in (76-mm) in diameter and 8-in (203-mm) from bottom of can to base of dome. Sleek design with no protruding lever handle—mechanical activation wheel with rack and pinion gear increases torque making can processing easy and fast. Integrated lock out system prevents unauthorized use and tamper-proof retention plate secures the unit to the drum. Non-sparking puncture pin pierces the can and directs the liquid flow straight into the drum for a quick, controlled evacuation. Special non-stick coating on housing minimizes static transfer to the unit while at the same time reduces clean up.

Attach the two-stage high-efficiency combination filter to the ¾-in (19-mm) bung to capture VOCs from any remaining propellants. Replaceable, proprietary polymer coalescer in filter base captures the residual liquid in the gas before it reaches the activated carbon, helping extend the life of the filter. The top activated carbon filter cartridge features adsorption indicator which reacts to the adsorption of VOCs to indicate when the filter cartridge is ready for replacement. Built-in counter tracks system use for maintenance. System also includes safety goggles and an anti-static ground wire with alligator clip.

One 55-gallon (200-liter) drum holds approximately 4,000 spent aerosol cans. Punctured, discharged, cans do not meet the definition of hazardous waste per EPA 40 CFR 261.23(a)(6), and thus can be treated as recyclable scrap metal. EPA compliant.

The Aerosolv® 3601 High Efficiency Combination Coalescing Carbon Filter features an adsorption indicator that designates when the filter needs to be replaced. Replace the activated carbon filter insert (inside upper portion) and the coalescing filter with pull tab (inside lower housing) every 1000 cans or when the adsorption indicator no longer appears ‘RED’ when venting aerosol cans. How does the absorption indicator work for the high-efficiency combination carbon filter?

When venting an aerosol can, the activated carbon will generate heat as the granular carbon adsorbs hydrocarbons – typically 20 to 25 degrees above ambient temperature. This will activate the liquid crystal indicator to signal adsorption of VOC’s and will light ‘RED’ during the adsorption process. It will return to black when the adsorption process is complete. (Note: Aerosol cans with 25% or less content may not activate indicator)

What maintenance is required for the two-way vent pin?

Periodic inspection and cleaning of the two-way vent pin will ensure top performance and unrestricted relief of propellant gas when recycling aerosol cans. To clean or replace the vent pin, remove the system from the drum. Turn upside down for easy access to the vent pin. Use a 1/2-inch socket to remove the pin. Using mineral spirits or acetone, soak the pin to clean any buildup of material on the center passageway. The pin is Teflon® coated for simple cleaning.
