Safety Cabinet Manual vs Self-Close Door Requirements by State

On occasion customers purchase a safety cabinet with manual close doors only to find their state or local fire code requires safety cabinets with self-close doors. Justrite offers retro-fitting self-close kits for some of our cabinet sizes, however, keep in mind this modification to a safety cabinet violates the cabinet's FM-approval, the Justrite warranty, and based on the craftsmanship of the installer, can jeopardize safety. The following reference chart illustrates the adoption of model codes by state and their door style requirement. We recommend customers check with local authorities having jurisdiction as local codes may prevail.
